3D TV Converter - Can You Change Your 2D Television to 3D?

With the recent release of a plethora of 3-dimensional feature films, the desire for 3D televisions in the home has risen dramatically. If you have seen films like Disney's Up or James Cameron's Avatar with special RealD glasses, you know that 3D can make one's viewing experience much more enjoyable. In fact, Avator has been critically acclaimed to have the best visuals of any film, ever (thanks in large part to its use of 3-D).

The problem is, although people want 3D in their homes, many people don't want to dish out the money for a new, "3D-ready" Lcd display. So, the concept of buying a 3D TV Converter has been introduced to the public.

3D TV

These 2D to 3D converters are surprisingly inexpensive: around 0. They have been around for a while (since as early as 2004), but have not had that much popularity. But in 2009 and early 2010, the sales of these products have shown a marked increase.

The problem is, these converters offer only cheap imitations of real 3D. They don't actually make anything 3-dimensional. Rather, these converters just split the image on your TV into 2 images, then uses polarized lenses to make the image on your display "pop out". However, the converters add no depth to the image.

On real 3-D ready televisions, the background of videos look like they are flush with the TV Screen, while objects on the foreground pop out. The difference between the background and the foreground is what makes watching 3D movies enjoyable. Without depth, you are just watching the same movie, except the whole thing looks slightly enlarged.

Glassless 3D TV - Future of Television?

Ever heard of 3 dimensional television (3D TV)? According to Philips, it will come to your living room no late than 2010. But don't get it wrong, this advanced 3D TV is capable of displaying lifelike stereoscopic 3D images without wearing those funny glasses anymore. After the last trend of high-definition in recent years, started from flat panel hype:

Plasma, LCD to LED. I think 3D TV will become a new step in television market. Actually this latest technology has been available in market for some time but those earlier TV still requires the users to wear special glasses to process the stereoscopic effects. If you don't wear it, chance you will get dizzy easily. And I guess most of you hate to wear that horrible glasses, right?

3D TV

Top manufacturers like Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic, and Philips (WOWvx) have all presented their 3D TVs demo to public. And till now impressions received are all phenomenal. You won't believe your eyes! All stuff is like jumping out from the TV, you won't realize if you are just watching a TV. You can feel all sensations like you are actually jumping, rushing, falling down and all stuff performed in the movies. Of course, you won't feel the pain part. It is just the 3D effects that trick your eyes, cause you to feel the depth in a movie. Moreover, you can experience this sensation not only in movies but also in games and sports broadcasts. You can already find some 3D Ready movies out there: Monster vs Aliens, UP, Ice Age 3, Journey to the Center of The Earth, My Bloody Valentine and many more.

Glassless 3D TV - Future of Television?

Despite all promising features offered, this latest breakthrough still has some limitations as well. A hurdle for 3D TV has to do with the high production cost of shooting movies and events since a 3D video requires multiple cameras for shooting. Besides, regular standard definition television broadcasts already consume more bandwidth capacity than other types of traffic like audio or text. High-definition video eats up even more. And it would likely take at least two full high-definition channels to broadcast live just one game in 3D format. After all, 3D movies combined with Full-HD quality is a must have for all movies-maniac, it's just too hard to resist. And I'm sure glassless 3D TV will be the future of television. What do you think?
