Why Plasma 3D TV is Better Than LCD 3D TV

With the advent of 3D technology in television, TV manufacturers have been in a constant race on who's going to create the best 3D television. Newer technologies in the TV world such as Lcd, plasma, and LED are beginning to undergo immediate innovation and upgrade of specs - the integration of 3D technology. This leads us to thinking of what's superior: Plasma 3D TV or Lcd 3D TV?

The battle between plasma and Lcd three dimensional TV's is deliberately brewing, thanks to different 3D enthusiasts and TV technology critics. If you're just a regular buyer who's not really aware of the hardcore facts about TV technology, you will not be able to spell the difference. Display in both the plasma and Lcd 3D televisions would simply look exactly the same.

First, the processing speed of the two is totally different. Though the refresh rate of 240 Hz (though some manufacturers claim of a 480 Hz, which is nevertheless already a manipulation of the specs) are already considered revolutionary for the Lcd technology, the issue with motion blur as well as side-to-side jerky panning is still an apparent issue.

Well, not really as it's still considered high definition however, the issue on motion blur as well as panning issues of 3D content in a LCD three dimensional TV. These issues are never going to exist with a plasma 3D television. The depth perception of plasma technology plus the advanced pixel structure make for a superior 3D viewing display.

So why is the plasma 3D television better than the LCD 3D TV? Well, overall it has Roger Ebert's two thumbs up or a 4/4 stars. 3D viewing experience with a plasma 3D TV is absolutely superior.

How 3D TV Technology Works

3D television technology is becoming increasingly popular with each passing day. Due to the rise of popular 3D feature films (namely Pixar's Up and James Cameron's Avatar), major television manufacturers began developing three dimensional home television technology in 2009.

There are several methods that these manufacturers use to create 3D images on an LCD television; some are more expensive than others, and some are more feasible than others. This article will discuss the three primary methods of 3-D home theater technology that will be used in upcoming years.

3D TV

Lenticular viewing: This technology has been pioneered by Philips, and is available as of today. TV sets that use this technology can be watched without those funny glasses that audiences used in theaters. These Televisions use a lens that can send different images to each eye. That is, your left eye will see a completely different image from your right eye, which will emulate your two eyes' use of stereopsis (the process by which your eyes discern depth). The one weakness of lenticular viewing, however, is that a viewer must sit in a very specific spot in front of the TV. This means that only a couple people would be able to comfortably watch the TV at once due to its small viewing angle.

How 3D TV Technology Works

Passive glass systems: Hyundai is developing this type of LCD monitor which will allow both 2D and 3D images to be viewed. To watch the 3-D images, viewers will need to wear the traditional glasses in order to watch three dinemsional Media. This technology is nothing new: the TV has two overlapping images and the glasses have polarized lenses. Each lens is polarized so that it can see only one of the two overlapping images. This technology is very feasible and 40 to 50 inch LCD TVs with this technology are currently available for purchase.

Active glass systems: This system is very similar to the passive glass system, except rather than the TV doing all work, the glasses do. The glasses synchronize with the refresh rate of the TV, then they alternate the polarization of each lens, making the wearers of the glasses see 3-D images. With this technology, people could be watching a 2-D movie comfortably, then at will switch the movie into 3-D. This type of monitor is being developed by Samsung and Mitsubishi, but the downside is that the glasses could be very expensive. Some predict the glasses to be upwards of 0.

Pros and Cons of 3D TV

A few years ago I saw my first 3D movie at the IMAX. It was so realistic that people where putting their hands up to touch it. It was a lot like putting your hand through a laser beam. My only other experience with 3D movies were some faiLED attempts to revive 3D when I was a kid, but it just wasn't realistic. Then my mom shared stories about 3D movies when she was young, but they were really movies in different colors made visible by wearing 3D glasses.

Since then 3D movies have come a long way. They actually work, in fact, they can create a dazzling and immersive movie viewing experience. Avatar was a great example of a stunning 3D movie. Now that we have the technology to create these movies we also have the technology to view them at home.

We can now rent and view 3D movies at home. We can purchase 3D movie Players and even 3D Televisions. So some of the advantages of getting a 3D TV is that you can watch cool 3D movies in the comfort of your own home. You can plant your kids in front of a 3D Disney or Pixar movie and there is a good chance that you will get an uninterrupted hour and half to yourself. Just think what you can do with that time, pay the bills, do the dishes, the possibilities are endless.

3D movies are not only a great way to entertain the kids there is talk of a 3D sports channel coming out. Even non-sports fans would probably be entertained by a 3D football or soccer game. For the more cerebral, Discovery is working on 3D nature shows. They already have several out that are shown at theaters, so now we can fly over the Nile or get a close up shot of an African river from our couch.

If you are a gamer, playing 3D games is just one step closer to virtual reality or at least a very cool gaming experience. Another nice thing about 3D television is that you don't have to watch all 3D all the time, but when it is time for a kids party or a family movie event, you have the capability to do so. Being on the forefront of the 3D TV revolution will be a fun and entertaining experience.

Some cons of 3D TV are the expense. The newer TVs are more expensive and all of the standards have not been set yet. We all know the disadvantages of being an early adopter. We also know that technology changes fast. For instance Phillips is working on a 3D TV that doesn't require glasses. Do you really want to have to have glasses for all of your friends viewing 3D when the hip neighbors can view 3D without the glasses?

Then again, how do we know that 3D viewing without glasses is quite as good as viewing with the glasses? The answer is we don't. Technology will ever be evolving and we can't predict the future. If you are in the market for a new TV anyway, you might as well upgrade and get a 3D model. With the money being poured into this technology there is a good chance it will be around awhile. On the other hand if your old TV is just fine there is nothing wrong with waiting until the technology and the prices stabilize a little more.
